SQA Consulting provides bespoke Robotic Process Automation (RPA) solutions. During the course of the next few weeks, we will provide an insight into our RPA implementation methodology in the form of an end-to-end life-cycle as a series of articles.
This first article introduces the overall concept of the RPA Implementation life-cycle as an end-to-end framework that is divided into different phases starting from Plan to Design, Develop & Test RPA robots to then all the way to Release, Deploy, Run and Optimise RPA robots. In subsequent articles, we will cover individual phases of the life-cycle to go into the specific details and share insights about activities in each phase.
The overall life-cycle is broadly divided into 2 categories i.e. Dev and Ops. The Dev phases are concerned with developing RPA robots, and the Ops phases are concerned with operationalising RPA robots. The life-cycle allows for an iterative RPA implementation approach, where smaller cross-functional agile RPA teams can manage the end-to-end RPA life-cycle in a speedy and most efficient way.
Activities in different phases can be accelerated with Automation by utilising specialised tooling for example; Automating Process Discovery in Plan phase that can aid into Defining Process Workflow in Develop phase.
An important point to mention is that given the low-code nature of RPA implementation projects and that RPA is recommended to be led by Business operations in support from IT, the activities in the Dev phases and Ops phases are carried out in the same sense – “Led by Business supported by IT” and are not to be confused to be done in traditional IT delivery mode.
